There were some very interesting websites that we were given in class. I may try and use the following web sites while working with Middle Level students.
www.avatars.yahoo.com To allow the children to create their own avatar because they are so involved in developing who they are at this age.
www.nmsa.org To help with planning and standards.
www.Thefischbowl.blogspot.com I am planning to show this to my students just to get them thinking and give them the opportunity to ponder.
www.Freerice.com What a wonderful thing to do during "Free time" in the computer lab. I know that when I show this to the kids and explain that it helps others, while they do it, it will spread like wildfire!

Websites
Three web sites not listed in class...
www.pandora.com
Since music is an integral part of pop culture, this website allows the user to access free radio stations via the internet. I let my students have the last 5 minutes of class last week to listen to their choices of music. They absolutely loved it!
www.wdl.org
Obviously, the library is a very important part of middle school (any age) learning. This website lets the user access artifacts and music from around the globe. I have shown my students this website as well. It helps to create worldly users.
www.npr.org/templates/story.php?storyIds103559357
This was from an interview a colleague heard on NPR on making poetry fun. She shared it with all of the Language Arts teams to help create excitement in learning poetry.
Hope these sites are useful to you all.
